STUDY TITLE: Measuring motor performance with an online video game in MindCrowd users
We are researchers from the Motor Rehabilitation and Learning lab under the direction of Dr. Sydney Schaefer in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University, and new collaborators of the MindCrowd team, a research project by the Translational Genomics Institute (TGen).
We are inviting your participation, which will involve playing a video game that will take less than 7 minutes to complete. The video game can be played within your home or any place you are comfortable, as long as you play on an internet-connected computer that has arrow keys on the keyboard. Data collected during this experiment will be your e-mail address, to verify your account, and video game data only. No additional data will be recorded. We are unable to compensate you for your time. You have the right not to play, and to stop participation at any time.
Your participation in this study is voluntary. If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time, there will be no penalty.
Your performance on the game will be used to inform how video game performance relates to common demographic variables previously measured through MindCrowd, although there is no direct benefit to you. There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts to your participation.
Only the researchers involved in this study will be able to see any of your data or information and it will not be shared with any third party. To register in the game, you will need to use the e-mail address you used when you signed up to receive emails from MindCrowd.
Confidentiality of your participation will be maintained unless disclosure is required by law. Any identifiable data from your game play will be de-identified. The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications but your name or your e-mail address will not be used. You will not be personally identifiable. De-identified data collected as part of this study will be shared only with our MindCrowd collaborators at TGen for future research purposes indefinitely. The data collected in this study will be merged with your previous profile within the MindCrowd database, which is managed through TGen.
If you have any questions concerning the research study, please contact the research team or PI (Dr. Sydney Schaefer at Arizona State University) at sydney.schaefer@asu.edu or (480) 727-6651. If you have any questions about your rights as a subject/participant in this research, or if you feel you have been placed at risk, you can contact the Chair of the Human Subjects Institutional Review Board, through the ASU Office of Research Integrity and Assurance, at (480) 965-6788.
If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to register with your e-mail address. This information will be used to ensure accurate sharing of your results back to the MindCrowd project.
Do you agree to participate in this study? Once you provide consent, you will be taken to the game page.
